Four Decades of the World’s Original Surf Watch
Freestyle launched the Shark in 1981, inventing an entirely new product category at the crossroads of California beach culture and ocean performance. Built from the ground up for surfers who needed a rugged, water-resistant digital timepiece that could survive the lineup, the Shark was unlike anything else on the market.
Through the 1980s and ’90s, word spread rapidly through surf and skate communities. The Shark’s boxy silhouette, bold colorways, and unmistakable fin logo became visual shorthand for the action-sports lifestyle — worn by professionals competing in the water and by anyone who lived for weekend swells and open-road freedom.
More than 40 years on, Freestyle continues producing the Shark to original specifications while expanding into fresh collaborations, limited editions, and the Shark Mini for smaller wrists. The limited lifetime warranty, Hydro Pusher buttons, and EL Night Vision backlight remain defining constants across every new release.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions most often asked about Shark watch models, features, warranty coverage, and care — straight from the source.
Shark Clip models are rated to 300 feet (100m); Leash and Buckle models handle 100m. Hydro Pusher buttons let you operate the watch fully submerged without water entering the case.
The limited lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for the original purchaser. It does not extend to the battery, strap, crystal, or damage caused by accidents or normal wear.
The only distinction is case size — the Classic runs 38mm, while the Mini is scaled for smaller wrists. Both carry identical features: 300ft resistance, Night Vision backlight, dual time, stopwatch, countdown timer, and alarm.
Freestyle strongly recommends sending the watch to an authorized repair center for battery changes. Unauthorized openings void the warranty and may compromise the water-resistant seal.
A single button press illuminates the full EL display for easy reading in low light, underwater, or at night. The backlight is standard across all current Shark models.
The Shark Mini was designed specifically for smaller wrists without removing a single feature. It’s a top choice for juniors and women who want the full surf-watch experience in a proportionate case.

What Shark Watch Owners Are Saying
Real feedback from surfers, athletes, healthcare workers, and everyday adventurers who’ve put the Shark through years of serious use.

Bought my fourth Freestyle because the third one finally gave out after years of ocean use. Dependability is unreal for the price — nothing else comes close in this category.
Jane D.

Wear mine through every shift in the ER — showers, hand-washing, the works. Tough, accurate, and the Night Vision backlight is genuinely useful when the lights are low.
Jamie R.

Got the Mini and it fits perfectly. Same features as the full-size Classic but actually proportioned for my wrist. Love the colorway, love that I never have to worry about water damage.
